Top 8 at No.8

We’ve now been open for 18 days – time truly flies when you’re having fun! We thought we would compile a list of the top 8 things about No. 8 Lister Square – created using your great feedback!

  1. Free Pool Table: Where else can you go and play pool for free? Additionally, where can you go and play pool for free whilst enjoying fabulous cocktails. You guys are going snooker-loopy for that pool table!
  2. Dugs N’ Pubs: Your canine friends are allowed into No. 8. Most places will think we’re barking mad but we just want our customers to feel as relaxed as possible and if that means you would like to bring your dog, we’re all for it.
  3. Berry Business Smoothies: Summer is fast approaching! Our refreshing smoothies have been a huge hit.
  4. Acoustic Music: At No. 8 we offer live music most nights – the DJs and Sunday jazz has been well received but no one can get enough of our acoustic sets. Our guys can really play!
  5. The Scotch Egg Starter: Our take on scotch eggs – the breadcrumbs containing an inner layer of black pudding and served with curried cauliflower. Bellissimo!
  6. Wine for £3.95: We have 4 house Whites and 4 house Reds and each is £3.95 per glass! As you can imagine this has been well received. Cheers!
  7. The No.8 Vibe: This sounds likes a bit of a cliché but the bar has an extremely trendy yet chilled vibe. Whether you want to slump into a Chesterfield with a glass of wine or have lunch and coffee with a group of friends, No. 8 provides the perfect atmosphere.
  8. Staff: What’s that expression – manners cost nothing. Now, we pay our staff, but their manners are impeccable nonetheless. What is more they always work with a smile on their face and learning fast what our ‘regulars be havin’

Thank you for all your custom so far and we look forward to entertaining you in the future.

No.8 Lister Square aims for success as British-flavoured gastropub

No.8 Lister Square aims for success as British-flavoured gastropub

Exciting news for No.8!  We were approached by STV who wanted to do an article on us and interview our big boss, Robert Reid. We of course obliged (we’d be crazy not to!) and here it is!

By Claire White on Monday 11 May 2015

The latest venture from the team behind Steak, Twelve Picardy Place and Beer and Skittles has opened its doors at Quartermile.

Originally opening as Enzo in August last year, the team decided on a refurbishment and revamp ahead of summer.  No.8 Lister Square will focus on British pub grub with nightly entertainment from acoustic sets to DJs.

Co-owner of the bar Robert Reid explained the team decided to adapt the former Italian restaurant into a British gastropub following discussion with locals.

“We just decided that a slightly different model would work,” Robert said.

“We just had a wee look at what we were doing and decided that now was the time for a change of focus.

“Enzo was quite stylish with a high-end wine bar and cocktail bar with a restaurant upstairs, but what we’ve decided to do is have bars upstairs and downstairs with the same offerings on both floors.”

Head chef Jason Wright has cooked up a British bar food menu serving up locally-sourced comfort food.

From black pudding and sausage scotch eggs to traditional fish and chips, the menu has been designed flexibly for relaxed dining and takeaway options.

“It’s a mixture of small bites, starters and mains with a lot of it served in wax cardboard boxes so you can eat it flexibly, whether you’re sat on a chesterfield or at a high table,” Robert said.

“It’s quite gastro, but again done in a flexible way so that you can enjoy eating at tables of ten with friends or sat in a wingback chair enjoying a beer or a glass of wine and having something that is really easy to eat on your lap.”

Drink

No.8 Lister Square will continue the previous bar’s wine focus, alongside cocktails, fresh juices, smoothies and craft beer.

“Drinks wise, we’ve extended our beer range so we kind of have a craft beer focus and then a fairly small but quirky cocktail menu,” Robert said.

“We’ve concentrated on wine, as Enzo did.

“We’ve got a smaller wine menu now, but we’ve done something which we think people will like. We’ve got four whites and four reds all at the house wine price by the glass.

“We’ll have four house wines and they’ll all be priced the same.”

Look

Split across two levels, No.8 Lister Square offers a mix of comfortable seating and informal dining for those who want to relax with a drink or tuck into some grub.

A pool table sits on the ground floor and the outdoor patio features large tables to enjoy a drink in the sunshine.

“We’ve softened the place up a bit so there are some wooden floors, mismatch furniture and cool wooden tables,” Robert said.

“It’s almost, and I hate the expression, ‘shabby-chic’ done really well.

“We have a pool table as well and a mixture of high tables with stools, dining tables and lounge areas with wingback seats, chesterfield sofas, coffee tables and rugs.

“We’re not trying to be a ‘dive bar’ by any means, but we’re trying to be cool, stylish and suave.”

Events

No.8 Lister Square will also serve up a host of entertainment nightly with music on offer every day.

From Monday to Wednesday, acoustic acts will perform in the bar and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday DJs will take to the decks providing the soundtrack to get you in the mood for the weekend.

Sundays will offer something a little different while you dine, with live jazz singers to add some swing to your Sunday.

What do our Quartermile neighbours think?

What do our Quartermile neighbours think?

Following the closure of ENZO Bar and Restaurant, we were keen to involve our neighbouring residents and businesses to get their thoughts on our new concept and how they will value having a Gastrobar in the area.

Barrie Brown, Managing Director of P1 Edinburgh said, “After lengthy discussions with residents, corporates and locals we acknowledged that the thriving cosmopolitan Quartermile would be an apt setting for a unique Gastrobar.”

The venue will serve quality British food and a wide selection of beverages within a quirky yet relaxed environment. As Paul Curran, Quartermile Managing Director said, “We’re delighted that No.8 is opening as a Gastrobar which will add to the dynamic of retail offering available at Quartermile”.

Ian Gray at Morton Fraser said, “Lister Square is a great spot for a Gastrobar and I’m sure we will all be knocking on No.8’s door for a well-earned drink”.

As Investec Wealth & Investment have said, “Our growing number of hard-working staff need somewhere to unwind and No. 8 Lister Square will provide us with the perfect setting to do so.”

We are opening our doors today, Saturday 9th May and our team looks forward to welcoming you to celebrate this exciting new venture. For any enquiries please contact their dedicated marketing team on 0131 556 9908 or email anne@p1edinburgh.co.uk.
